FESTVAL OF THE TESTICLE

Today I learned that there is to be a "Testicle Festival" in Fredericksburg on August 1st. (Desperate times cause desperate measures.)This brought to mind a "testicle" story of mine so I thought I'd share this once verboten word with you.    In my youth, young ladies did not speak of testicles, probably because most of us didn't know what they were. I, however, did because, as you may recall from previous blogs, I raised cattle. My first awareness that testicles could be eaten occurred when I went to a roundup at a ranch near my hometown. Cows with calves at their side were rounded up, herded into a pen and then the calves were separated from their mothers, roped, branded and, if they were little bulls, castrated. Only certain ones were kept to sire later. Anyway, the fence surrounding the pen where all this happened had a 2 by 4 nailed on top of the posts and as the fresh testicles were gathered up by some lowly hand, they were slapped up on top of this ...

FUN NAMES

I ran across a list of names I created some time ago and thought I would share them. Maybe good names for characters in a book. It works better if you say them fast. Warren Pease Grinnen Barrett Oliver Sutton Brocco Lee Tanya Hide Effie Gee Justin Thyme Shirley Knott Sara Getty There are real ones I didn't create, such a Dr. Hu, Dr. Cluely, and Dr. Vip, plus a dentist in New Orleans named Dr. Clotworthy.

NICKNAMES

For some strange reason I woke up today remembering odd nicknames applied to people in my hometown. So, I decided to share them with you. Not much in the way of entertainment, but just a bit peculiar. Short Tom and Long Tom (ranchers and brothers) Speck (poor guy was covered with freckles) Slick (don't ask) Monkey (my goofy uncle) Tootie Toodles Raw Meat Rodgers (another rancher and, yes, he ate raw meat) Bunky (not the nicest guy in town) Budgie Fats Two-ninety (why? Because he was born on the 290 acreage of a ranch) and last, the ubiquitous nickname "Shorty"

IN THE MIRROR

Dear Readers..I am a poetic mood so bear with me. This one is more cheerful I looked in the mirror and what did I see? There was an old woman looking back at me. She seemed familiar so I looked again and when I did she gave me grin. She laughed and said don't worry about your age. That's just another chapter, just another page. Be thankful for all you've done. You've really had a lot of fun. Keep that in your heart 'cause you won't go there again. When it's all over and your time has finally come, you'll say goodbye to many and hello to some.

DROUGHT

We sat and waited for the rain but it didn't come again Our trees fell down Our grass turned brown and still we muddled on. We prayed and cursed, went from bad to worse Yet we didn't comprehend that we were the cause nor did we pause to think we were leading ourselves to the end.

CYRUS

This is not a sweet little limerick. It just popped into my head. There once was a man named Cyrus who caught the Corona virus. He felt really bad but he was a cad So his recovery was not desirous.
