BACK IN THE DAY

Yesterday I realized that I had gotten my writings for this blog mixed up with the writings for my Grandmother letters. The letters are the ones I started writing to my grandchildren back in 1997 when I realized that I didn't have the opportunity of visiting with them personally since modern life prohibits that. We live so far apart. Therefore, I am going to shift through the Letters to transcribe here and hope that I don't repeat myself too much, if any. I do remember telling you that my Mother's mother, Gramby, lived with us.  We used to listen to the radio a lot before TV was invented and we heard what was called "soap operas", continuing sagas that were sponsored by soap companies. There were also adventure stories told by those who had experienced them and these kept us excitedly glued to the radio. The programs had names like "Stella Dallas, "Fibber Magee and Molly" , "Suspense and "Inner Sanctum". That last one opened with the ...

ON LINE

It seems that my aged brain is slowing down at a faster rater than I expected. I want to write more but can't get going. I found a bunch of little notes that I had written to myself suggesting subjects but they're short so don't expect much. I begin in 1959 with my first baby. She told me that I shouldn't leave the washed diapers on the line overnight because the night air on them caused the baby to have colic. Okay, that sounds crazy, but I was desperate so I started removing the diapers from the line before the sun set and guess what!!? It worked! Don't ask me why, but I was so relieved...

IMPORTANCE OF NAMES

CATCHING UP

After a year's sabbatical, I finally feel like writing again. I have a pile of messy notes for this blog. Many were written in the dark when I was trying to fall asleep but my mind wouldn't let me. If I turn on the light the thoughts go away. They are not going to follow any particular chronological order. The first one is going to upset my caretaking son, Paul, and perhaps others but it happened. I told you that I spent a lot of time in Port Aransas on the Gulf beaches having great fun. What I didn't tell you is that we used to ride up and down the beach in a Jeep running over jelly fish just to hear them pop. Of course, now I know that was wrong and I'm not pleased about it, but I just thought you should know. (Hanging head in shame) When I worked in San Antonio Earl Abel's on Broadway was the place to eat and meet. Many of our friends went there and the food was really good. The had a sign over the counter in the short order room which read..."Seville dare ...
