APOLOGY

I must apologize to my readers, (if there are any), that I have not written in a while. I have stories which really need the photos to go with them but have not conquered the transfer of same to the blog. I will keep working on that. In the meantime here is a short piece I wrote ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He took care of her and she took care of him;they both took care of me. That's the way it was growing up in our little house on Highway 202 in Beeville, Texas. No matter if Mama was busy painting a mural on the side of our garage or digging a hole for a new plant, when 5:00 p.m. came, she went in the house, washed her hands and face and freshened herself up so she would look nice when Daddy got home. She didn't have to consult a woman's magazine for pointers on "How to Keep Your Man". They loved and supported each other and passed that feeling of love on to me. That love sus...

RHYME TIME

I found some more old poems written long ago so I want to share them with you. SILVER SCREEN I didn't want Gene Kelly to die. I didn't realize it would make me cry I wasn't ready when Robert Mitchum went and now my emotions are really spent. Bela and Boris are gone too so scary movies are all but through. Elvis didn't affect me much. We were the same age and, as such, it was not like when I was a teen,  looking at the silver screen. There they were in all their glory telling some fascinating story. And so it was all these years until, peeking from beneath my tears, I saw my aging reflection, felt so much in retrospection, happy that those stars had shared a time with me as if they cared. I wrote that one on 9/29/97 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOME A slow squeak, a gentle bang That was the screened back door. The hinges needed some oil...

ADD-ON

I forgot a couple of incidents that occurred while I was Deputy Sheriff. so here they are. I was the first female Deputy Sheriff of Gillespie County, Texas, and as such they didn't know what to do with me.  All law enforcement officers were required to take the FBI firearms course so off we went to the wilds of the county where we were instructed by an Agent. The guys were a little afraid to be near me while I had a firearm but they needn't have been because I learned how to shoot when I was very young living out in the country. As related in one of my past blogs, I was a pretty good shot. Anyway, there was a life sized silhouette as our target and we shot it from various positions with our pistols. Then we had to use a shotgun, which, again, was not foreign to me except for the fact that the kickback was so strong I had to shoot from the hip. This caused me to shoot the poor figure right between the legs, which would stop any attacker pretty quick. We also had to shoot at ni...

FREDERICKSBURG FOLLIES

It's been a while since I blogged but stuff keeps happening here to keep me away from this. I don't think I can write any more about my French ancestors because there is too much confusing information. I shall leave that job to my offspring. I would like to tell you about my stint as a Deputy Sheriff in Fredericksburg. The county applied for a grant to build a new law enforcement building but there were certain requirements for getting one. They needed a female and a Hispanic, which is a bit difficult to find in a town like Fredburg. Well, they found me, a female with a Hispanic surname! Tah,dah! The funds came through but not while I was serving as Deputy. One of my first experiences was with a woman who was brought in for drunkeness after having a high old time in one of the rural beer joints. They wanted to put her in a cell, but after fingerprinting her, she absolutely refused to budge from her chair. They called me, which they should have done in the first place, to see ...
