HAPPIER POEMS

Following are some more of my poems. You'll find they're more cheerful than the previous. ALONE I have grown old  and have become fat. I now sleep alone with only my cat. ____________________________________________________________________________ HOW All my teeth are in a glass. I've no more muscles in my ass. My joints are stiff, my hair is gray. How the hell did I get this way? _______________________________________________________________________________________- ALBUQUERQUE I had a gal in Albuquerque She was pretty but mighty quirky When we climbed up to Sandia Crest 'Twas there she let me touch her breast. But alas, when we came down she left me for a circus clown! ______________________________________________________________________________ LEXUS There once was a farmer from Texas who plowed the fields in his Lexus The rows were straight but the Lexus ain't 'cause the blades cut the Lexus ...

Real Happy Days

One would think that just about all one could write about the little town of Beeville has been written here....but wait...there's more! Where to begin? Perhaps I should start by explaining that although Beeville is deep in South Texas, between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, and was historically an agricultural, oil and cattle town, it had another feature when I was growing up. Chase Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station opened in 1943 and was located about eight miles past my home on the Refugio Highway.  Its primary reason for being was to train Naval personnel to fly jets. The Navy bought some land from a prominent cattle rancher and life in our quiet country town changed quite a bit. The rancher was not happy with the roar of the planes but many young ladies were extremely happy with the influx of young men. A USO was opened downtown and it was a great place for the servicemen and the citizens to socialize. In 1944 I began taking piano lessons and one day I came home from school...

BREMEN, GERMANY

Our destination in the north of Germany was Bremen, which is 317 miles from the North Sea. That distance doesn't keep the cold north wind from blowing in though. My husband had to meet some of the shipping people as soon as we arrived so I was left to fend for myself in this huge city. It was a Saturday and I went to the marktplatz but not only were they closing their stalls, but it started to rain. This was not a nice South Texas shower...no! This was an icy downpour blowing in from the North Sea! I was wearing a powder blue polyester pantsuit which didn't protect me from the elements at all.  I managed to find a department store that was open and I ducked in there determined to buy a raincoat. Ha! That's not so easy when you don't sprechen ze deutsche, so I managed with hand signals and found a nice helpful saleslady who showed me just about the most expensive raincoats I have ever seen. Realizing that I didn't have enough deutsche marcs with me, I asked her wher...

Chapter 3:ONWARD AND NORTHWARD

When last I blogged, we had left Greece and driven to Montreux, Switzerland. Bear in mind that it had now become a habit of ours when traveling not to make any hotel reservations ahead of time. Oh, the joy of surprise! Therefore we arrived in Montreux without any idea as to where we were going to stay before going on to Germany. This, however, did not worry my husband so we drove around until we saw a lovely hotel on Lac Leman, (popularly called Lake Geneva). I can't remember the name of the hotel, but anyway, we went in to the beautiful lobby and strolled up to the desk whereupon my husband gave his name and asked if our room was ready. The clerk couldn't find our name in the register so my husband began one of the spiels he used when convincing someone of something rather "iffy". Registering disappointment on his handsome face, he asked the clerk to check again and of course, our name still wasn't there. By then the manager had noticed the difficulty and emerged...
