ON THE ROAD AGAIN

I begin this with photos of the Highland cattle that are so different from the Herefords I used to raise.
They call them "coos" and I really like the way they look.

We left for Lake Windermere, as in Lady Windermere's Fan, which is in the Lake District of England.
This is in a lovely part of England and it is so very green with lots of water, unlike my dry South Texas. After much delay in terrible traffic on the M25 we finally arrived at the Hawksmoor B&B in Windermere. Completely opposite of the previous inn, this one is very modern with a heated towel rack, heated bathroom floor, skylight and deep tub with all sorts of nice locally made scents to bathe with. However, I have come to the conclusion that they sell only lumpy mattresses in the U.K. since this one was as bad as the one at the lodge . I had to wrap myself up in the duvet to keep from getting a backache. Maybe it's like their teeth, they just don't know what it's like to have nice ones.

We stayed at the Hawksmoor two nights and this was the first time I had ever had fish for breakfast. I had poached haddock with poached egg and it was delicious! Next morning I had Eggs Benedict which is one of my favorite dishes. After driving around the lakes and
visiting the little towns, we left for our return to London. The traffic was unbelievably wretched; bumper-to-bumper moving no more than two feet at a time. As I said before, they do have "services" every few miles where you can turn off and find a TOILET and just about anything else you might need including McDonalds and Starbucks. My son-in-law did find an alternative through some pretty countryside to a toll road and that helped a lot. What should have been a four hour drive turned out to be about eight hours.

As my readers may have guessed by now, I'm not very computer savvy so the paragraphs in this writing are set up rather awkwardly. No matter, the words are the same. Am sharing with you a picture of a beautiful structure we saw. Don't know exactly what it is, but it's lovely.

  1. I love these adventures! I would struggle with the lumpy beds too! Wonder if I should pack a inflatable mattress pad (like I have for camping) when I go! :)
