PRETTY PADSTOW
Go back to England with me today. After a much needed rest from our London adventure, we took off for Padstow in Cornwall. My son-in-law drove us in his sporty little convertible on this wonderful sight-seeing trip, starting out on the super M-3 highway. It was during this drive that I learned that a speed limit is just a suggestion for him because he drove about 90 to 100 mph the whole time we were on that highway. We did turn off onto smaller roads, some only one narrow lane riding jam up against the trimmed hedgerows. It was rather terrifying at times but really beautiful. We saw the pastoral scenes that I have always read about and seen in movies. We also sped by Stonehenge!
We arrived at the seacoast town of Padstow and went to my son-in-law's aunt's house where she operates a very casual BnB. The interesting house was built in 1780. She had a room for me on the 2nd floor, which is the 1st over here. Our first floor is called the street floor over there. Anyway, you probably know that. My room was very comfortable and overlooked the street. In front of almost every house and building there are baskets of beautiful flowers. On the double gate entrance to the spot where we parked the car there were two huge baskets of petunias.
We had a "cuppa" and walked down to the town where it seemed as if every corner is a photo op. There is a bay and then a cove which is half moon shape and around that are a variety of shops and restaurants. After all the browsing, we rested and got dressed for the evening out dining at Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant. Oh, the prices! I ordered two appetizers because it was so late and they were great; a prawn cocktail and broiled scallops, both of which were delicious. The food, the wine and company made for a lovely evening.
Next morning we had a proper English breakfast complete with scones and clotted cream that was yummy. Google it.
This has to be continued because thinking about an English breakfast has made me disgruntled and hungry. More later.........................
