CASKET GIRLS' DESCENDANTS

 It is very easy to confuse one ancestor with another because during the years of early settlement in the New World they tended to name their children from previous relations, such as the case of Marie Anne Fourchet and Marie Anne Foucault. Foucault is the surname of my seventh great-grandmother on my mother's side. She was born in Paris in 1703 and was sent to the New World as one of the "Casket Girls" to marry French settlers and military. Marie Anne, 17 and her 19 year old sister, Marie Catherine, and 86 other girls sailed from Paris aboard the ship La Baleine, on January 8, 1721. 

I don't have time-related details but after arriving in Old Biloxi Marie Anne married Jacques Claude Dupont, a Parisian soldier in the French colony. Her sister, Marie Catherine, married Rene Sabourin, also a soldier. Marie Anne and Jacques Claude had six children before his death in April of 1735. His  widow then married Pierre Galand, (dit La Chaumette) in August of that same year and they lived on his plantation upriver from Mobile. Pierre, Marie, three children and two slaves were killed on October 23, 1747, on their plantation by the Choctaw Indians. Her son, Jean Claude Dupont had gone downriver and therefore was spared. I am his descendant. 

Interestingly, a Monsieur de Louboey sent a report regarding the massacre to Ft. Maurepas in which he described the incident thusly..."although I ordered them to come here (to the fort) arms and baggage. Such is the character of the majority of the French, who let themselves be butchered through blind confidence"

I could fill up a few more pages with the lineage of these families, but suffice it to say that the Fourche and Foucault families were united in 1760 when Marie Jeanne Guillory, Jean LaCasse's granddaughter married Jean Claude Dupont. They had seven children. And on it goes....too much for my readers to contend with.

I am their descendant coming from the marriage of Marie Luisa LeFleau and Louis D'Olive in Mobile in 1801. My grandmother, Nellie Aurelia D'Olive descended from this union.

All this to-do about toilet paper has brought to mind various experiences pertaining to that life essential. Right now I am sitting two rooms away from an open package of lavender scented toilet paper, the only kind my son could find, with a scent that is so strong I will not have to spray for as long as this stuff lasts. HALLOWED EVE?

Well here it is, almost Halloween 2020, one that will be completely different from any others thanks to the current pandemic. I don't know anything about Halloween in other countries but here in the U.S. it's been a big deal. I would like to share with you some of my past adventures which happened on the "Hallowed Eve".  When I was very young I belonged to the Girl Scouts and in those days we didn't have to go around peddling candy. We did all sorts of interesting and constructive things and even had campouts. On one overnight campout outside of town, I remember sitting around the campfire listening to Rocky Reagan tell ghost stories. He was a real rancher and a master story teller. TO BE AN ONLY CHILD

 I think I told my readers, if there are any, that I am an only child. Little did I realize growing up that that would allow me to have a few interesting adventures as an adult. Today I have decided to share some of those with you and I hope I am not repeating any stories. I will try to keep them in chronological order but that may be impossible for me. I start by reminding you of my flight from New Orleans to Athens, Greece. That's a tale you may find in my blog of June 30, 2019, so I won't retell it now. After that I flew to Washington D.C., which I wrote about on May 18, 2019.
